A number of people have asked that we extend our deadline to after the US Election, which will be held on Nov. 6. Given the tight schedule we’ve set for the Program Committee to winnow proposals, there is not much give in our schedule, but we will extend the deadline by 48 hours, to midnight on Wed Nov 7, 2018.

Just about one month to go to the deadline!  Then all the proposals will be considered by the We Robot 2019 Program Committee.  It’s a blind reviewing process, so to maximize your chances of acceptance, please DO NOT discuss the substance of your proposal with any of the people on this list.

General inquiries are welcome to robots@law.miami.edu, but please don’t include specifics about your proposal as it may be seen by a Program Committee member.

We’re delighted to announce the opening of the We Robot 2019 paper submission portal. (Link fixed.) We look forward to your ideas for conference papers. Please see the We Robot 2019 Call for Papers for details about what we are looking for. Note that proposals are due by Nov 5, 2018. (Update: To preserve blind review, we ask that you not ask members of the program committee to review draft abstracts in advance of submission.)

We invite submissions for the 8^th annual robotics law and policy conference—We Robot 2019—to be held at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, USA, on April 11-13, 2019. Previously, the conference has been held at University of Miami, University of Washington, Stanford, and Yale. The conference web site is at http://robots.law.miami.edu/2019 and that page will provide links to the submission portal when it opens.

We Robot 2019 seeks contributions by American and international academics, practitioners, and others, in the form of scholarly papers, technological demonstrations, or posters. We Robot fosters conversations between the people designing, building, and deploying robots and the people who design or influence the legal and social structures in which robots will operate. We particularly encourage papers that reflect interdisciplinary collaborations between developers of robotics, AI, and related technology and experts in the humanities, social science, and law and policy.

This conference will build on a growing body of scholarship exploring how the increasing sophistication and autonomous decision-making capabilities of robots and their widespread deployment everywhere from the home, to hospitals, to public spaces, to the battlefield disrupts existing legal regimes or requires rethinking policy issues.

We invite proposals for each of the following:

• Scholarly papers
• Demonstrations
• Poster sessions

We Robot 2019 registration opens today! We encourage you to register early, as we will close registration when the conference is full.

Until Jan. 11, 2019, the early bird fee for general registration for the main conference (April 12 & 13) is only $99. From Jan 11, 2019, general registration will rise to $149. We also have special rates for full-time academics ($99), full time students ($35) and U.Miami faculty ($35).

The We Robot Workshop on April 11 is an additional $45. We have exciting plans for the Workshop this year – subscribe to this blog so you don’t miss the details (see right column of this page for RSS and email subscription options).

A limited number of fee waivers for the main conference and/or the workshop are available for full time faculty and students; we also offer substantial discounts to attendees from economically developing countries. Email us at robots@law.miami.edu to apply for a waiver or discount.
